Evidently there was an intrusion of Soviet aircraft into the Canadian
Arctic during President Obama's visit to Canada a week ago.
According to Defence Minister Peter MacKay, these intrusions have
intensified of late, most probably due to renewed interest in many
countries vieing for Sovereignty in the vast expanse of Northern
Islands. With global warming and the icepack shrinking more each year,
it has been getting a lot more attention for resource extraction.
Canada has historically laid claim to a great part of the Arctic, but many
countries including Russia and Denmark contest these claims.
Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister David Emerson made note also
of the increased activity, both military and otherwise. Like our
anthem says "The true North Strong and Free..We Stand on Guard for Thee!"
Uh-Oh Canada!
CF-18 Jets were scrambled from Canadian Forces Base Cold Lake, Alberta
to intercept the vodka fueled interlopers and keep Mr Obama safe!
