Gilles Blackburn and his wife, Marie-Josee Fortin, were lost for 10 days
in the back country of the cold Canadian Rocky Mountains.
Enroute from Lake Louise to the Kicking Horse Pass area the couple
disappeared. RCMP and searchers looked with helicopters and teams
for many days, but to no avail. When finally discovered, Mr. Blackburn
told a harrowing tale of survival and tragedy as his wife died during the
ordeal. Being treated in hospital for severe frostbite, his brother-in-law
told reporters of an attack by wolves the couple survived.
In the Canadian Rockies, bear attacks are often the more prevelent
dangers back country hikers face, particularly savage Grizzly bear
encounters. On the British Columbia coastline, cougars or Mountain
Lions are often involved in various attacks. We live in a wild world...
that is for certain...and in the wilds of British Columbia, Canada...
the cold and wild animals are as dangerous as street gangs in the city.
