A Nation of Racial Cowards

Saint Augustine : FL : USA | 9 months ago
Views: 32

In recent days Eric Holder the nation’s Attorney General said the United States was a “nation of cowards” on matters of race. He stated that most Americans tend to ignore discussions about racial issues. He even commented about who Americans choose to be with in their personal time. He implied that each race tends to involve itself with that and only that particular race. Maybe so, but is America growing weary of being told how to feel on these matters? And honestly what does that have to do with being the Attorney General?

This nation has recently elected the first African American president; of course we all know this because he is even on the best seller lists. Now, we are focusing on the first African American attorney General. Isn’t it about time we start seeing each other as men and women or Americans instead of giving each other separate labels? Instead of using the political position they hold for yet another racial debate, wouldn’t you like to see our officials use that position to do what they were elected and/or appointed to do?

I ask you from one American to another. How are we supposed to overcome racial issues if the nation’s leaders keep dwelling on the subject? Wouldn’t it be nice if they practiced what they preached?

I believe the Attorney General has a lot to do with enforcing Laws.
When Robert Kennedy was Attorney General under his brother John's
Administration, this meant enforcing Federal Law that pertained to
Civil Rights, particularly with black people in the south. i hope
this goes some way in helping you understand why the Nation's Top
Lawyer may have an interest in racial issues!

I think that this writer has a point that dwelling on the issue of race when there are more pertinent ideas at hand distracts policy makers from the important issues. For example, during Obama's campaign, the media focused so intently on Obama's ethnicity that it often spent very little time discussing Obama's plans for reform, the Iraq War, taxation or the economy. Then again, race is an important part of our country, especially since we are such an eclectic country that embraces racial equality and cultural differences and especially since our political leaders try to make policies that cater towards all the different cultures that make up our larger American culture.
