Sometimes it is really important to let people realize how better off they are than many others around them and still how thankless they have been. A millionaire business Damon Buffini did exactly the same when he felt that some of his employees need to get their attitude re-fixed.
The private equity magnate ordered more than 100 burgers from McDonalds and then waited for 48 hours before calling a lunchtime meeting of his staff at his London office. Once the whole staff was in front of him, he informed the gatherers that how sick and tired he was of their poor attitude and reminded them of how lucky they are to still have jobs in this tough time of recession.
At the end of his clamorous talk, his employees were told to eat two days old burgers and reflect on how fortunate they all were to still have their jobs. It is believed that Mr. Buffini, 46, who is said to be proud of the ‘work ethics’ at his firm, Permira wanted to make a number of points by ordering his staff to eat those burgers.
One of the very important points that he wanted each one of them refresh in their minds was that he is the boss and they are to do what he expects them to do and in exactly the manner he want things to get done. Although I found his stale burger punishment quite absurd but the point remains that he did manage to tell his staff that he is the boss and definitely not the kind you should take for granted! But then, it is kind of rare that we take our bosses for granted, right?
