KARACHI, 21st February – Mr. Syed Aziz Azmi, the Assignment Editor of SAMAA TV and also one of the most prolific writers in Pakistan passed away last night at the Cardio Hospital, Nazimabad. Mr. Azmi died at the age of only 38.
Syed Aziz Azmi started his career in the print media in 1994, where he contributed with his in-depth analysis on social issues and with the commitment of enlightening the society to take the social challenges in perspective and contributing to a positive change. Mr. Azmi joined the electronic media in 1999, where he worked at various media channels dealing with the news coverage related to the political and social scenario across Pakistan and around the world. In 2007,
Mr. Azmi joined SAMAA TV, the leading Urdu news channel in Pakistan as the assistant editor news. Due to his dedication, hard work and commitment, Mr. Azmi was recently promoted to Assignment Editor of SAMAA News carrying the strong responsibility of ensuring the news quality and coordination of news coverage for SAMAA TV.
Mr. Azmi was born on 4th June 1970 and took his Master’s degree in Urdu literature from Karachi University in 1987. He also did his Master’s in Law in 1999 and worked as a lawyer for almost 2 years before he decided to follow his call and entered the world of media.
Mr. Azmi was a keen writer and published his own 3 books, in which he touched upon the most sensitive and unique topics for readers to read and think about. He was greatly acknowledged and admired among his peers for his ability to sensitize others and change mindsets through his vision.
Amir Jahangir, CEO SAMAA TV expressed deep sorrow on the sad demise of a respected and talented member of the SAMAA TV. Mr. Jahangir said that “Mr. Azmi was not only a remarkable journalist but also an excellent human being, who understood the sensitivity of other people and their needs. He was excellent in identifying and analyzing elements, which were key elements in developing a progressive nation. We have all learned a lot from him and his lack of presence will be felt immensely both within our organization as well as among his friends and family”.
Mr. Jahangir also shared that the SAMAA TV Management has instituted a fund by the name of AZIZ FUND for its employees, through which financial support will be provided to the family of Mr. Azmi.
Mr. Azmi had recently undergone a by-pass surgery and was admitted on Thursday due to feeling unwell. On Saturday morning, 21st February 2009, Mr. Azmi silently passed away. The funeral prayers were held at the residence of Syed Aziz Azmi, who leaves behind a wife and four daughters.
