Rapists should be castrated: Italian Minister

In a recent quote, an Italian Cabinet minister has hinted frustration in growing vigilante sexual assaults. He has gone on record saying that the punishment for rape should be castration for the rapist. According to him, there has been a rise in attacks on immigrants after a series of rape cases blamed on foreigners.

On Valentines Day, a 14 year old girl was raped and her 16 year old boyfriend beaten in a park. Meanwhile, a 21 year old Bolivian girl was raped in Milan by a North African man.

People in most of Italy are outraged by the series of rapes, and they are calling for a 'societal defense' mechanism. But Roberto MaroniRoberto Maroni, the Interior Minister, has urged Italian youths not to take law into their own hands after masked youths armed with wooden clubs smashed up a kebab bar near the scene of a rape at Caffarella Park during the weekend.

What is the quantum of traumatization a girl feels after she has been sexually assaulted? According to reports, more than 90% has said she would be scarred and scared for life. Why do girls commit suicide after cases of sexual assault against them? In a matter of simple words, the woman's injury will be for life. So, I see only fit that the convicted should also get the same punishment.

As the Italian Minister Mr Maroni suggested, it is one way of curbing the crimes, because I don't think any man would want his manhood chopped off.
