According to the latest reports, the United Kingdom has spent a total of 4.5 billion pounds (approx 6.5 billion US$) to fund/support/promote the war in Afghanistan and Iraq. When weapons mass destruction were made a reason or the threat of Taliban was at its peak, world powers united to bombard their lands, ironically these countries were primarily Muslim dominated.
If Great Britain can spend a sum of $6.5 billion to fund a war, imagination tends to think how much would one need to spend in order to achieve peace. A war that has its repercussions on an entire generation of thee two countries, along with the entire Middle East (Palestine, Yemen and Syria).
It was after the Second World War that Europe was traumatized and USA gave a generous donation of $17 billion for rebuilding and simultaneously IBRD – International Bank for Reconstruction and Development was established which is now known as the world bank. And if these powers consider spending a fortune in funding these wars they would still have to inject more money to reconstruct these war torn areas – not a very wise decision in these tough times of recession.
Continuing this war may only yield further rooting of hatred towards the nations who want to eradicate terror. Terrorism has always been existent in this world; a terror free society is only prevalent in utopia. It is only a matter of how you manage and curtail it.
