Does weakness arrive with age? If you are old, does it mean that you will definitely lose your athleticism. No, it certainly does not.
A news article recently in the Telegraph recently reported that a 72 year old woment, a victim of a robbery that lasted 15 seconds or so, was able to retrieve her bag from the robbers.
The lady is a retired teacher and an ex-sprinter. As a 17 year old, she was her schools 100 yards champion. She had also qualified for the finals of All England Schools Championship.
The lady, Mrs Hirst, was getting helped by three teenage girls. She had lost directions on her way to the theatre and had asked the three teenagers to help her. At that point, one of them who thought she could take advantage of her old age, started running and making off with her bag. The teenager had a head start, but Mrs Hirst covered about 70 yards in 15 seconds. The schoolgirl who was amazed at the speed at which she was getting caught up, was forced to throw down the bag and run for her safety. The teenagers later apologised for their friend's actions and Mrs Hirst decided on not calling the police.
So next time you think to rob an old man or a woman, think twice. They might have been sprinters, karate champions or boxers in their heydays. You might just get your backside smashed.
