Underpants violence

India facing fits of routine ‘Talibanisation’ a concept which is only heard to have been prevailing in Afghanistan. However this fanaticism is of another kind. Some time back a group of people from the Sri Ram Senha, a leftist political/religious party, who claim caretakers of the Indian culture and heritage stormed into one of the pubs in down town Mangalore and assaulted women enjoying their routine bubbly. This group also claims to set out on a mission to stop general public from celebrating Valentine’s Day and threaten to force unmarried couples to either tie the knot or bind themselves into a verbal sibling ritual – Rakhi.

However India is a secular country and force cannot be used to make people comply with any religious practice. Therefore a group of Indian women have felt the right to take up this issue as a challenge by standing face to face with the sad bunch of fanatic snobs. This consortium of pub going women has made an agenda to give pink underpants to these SRS workers in protest. Up till now this strong and forward group of ladies has 7422 supporters of this idea and more a still being recruited.

As bizarre as sending pink underpants may sound, the issue is given an unnecessary media hype. The foremost important thing that needs to be realized is that India is still a very traditional and conservative society. Most of it that we see today on cinema and satellite channels is not even 5% of the entire population. SRS however needs to grow up as well. There was a time when their might could not have been challenged, they have ignored the fact that society has grown to be more educated and more open towards western cultures. Their sheer reliance on violence may only lead to more heads fading away from them and eventually their agenda may turn to ashes. And for people who believe that there is no harm in spending an entire day with their significant one holding hands by the beach or making out in cars in dirty allies or for the more courageous ones renting out a room and showing off their ‘hidden talents’ and is something that they can get away without people even exercising their brow than they are sadly mistaken and they need to respect other people’s sanctity and show sensitivity towards their beliefs.
