Jason Whitlock of the Kansas City Star has a great article on Foxsports.com about a double standard in sports today dealing with black and white athletes. It's sad today that everything has to be turned into a racial dispute or issue, which frankly is only used by inadequate clowns who have no facts or points to issues. Anyways, it is true that America's stars and athletes generally get a free pass when they make a "boo boo".
It is important to note that athletes and stars are put on this high up pedestal because of people like you and me. If I got caught tomorrow smoking pot outside, there would be absolutely no media coverage nor would the charges be dropped. It is also very unlikely that my job would simply shove this mess under the company rug. Since Phelps is a global icon especially after his Beijing Olympics performance it is hard to really hate the man. He did after all come out and apologize and seems to be hanging on to this looming issue on a personal level. Phelps is in no way trying to weasel out of his screw up. He has admitted his mistakes and has been public in his sorrows and apologies.
If you notice how many times athletes are found smoking the reefer, it numbers in the thousands and there is one thing that happens for the athlete generally whether white, black, yellow, brown. That is the charges are dropped because of the stardom that person holds in the publics eye. I mean honestly, President Barack Obama openly admitted to experimenting with weed, and look how high he is viewed in the publics eye. We should probably impeach him now that this secret is out. Probably won't happen. This double standard crap needs to stop. When an argument is switched to a persons race, that is a telling sign that the person complaining is simply a babbling baboon.
