Saviour. Bailout Bill. Such names are going around the media and also among the millions of New Yorkers. A man, probably intending, not to 'bail-out' American families, but to provide a glimpse of hope in ongoing recession, has decided give away stacks of cash. Anyone who is patient enough to stay in line, that is.
He prefers himself to be called as 'Bailout Bill'. People do not know where he came from. All they know that this man is helping alot of Americans who struggle to eat and sleep everyday. Enclosed in a small booth, the Bailout Booth, he happily hands away cash ranging from $50 to $5000 to people who brave freezing temperatures to reach him. In the heart of Manhattan's Times Square, close to the Virgin Megastore, Bailout Bill assures people that if they do reach him, they will be getting something, and noone will return empty handed.
People have waited for hours in sub-zero environment to get the cash. Gerrard Rinemoof, 34, was covered in snow before he got his cash. But as he rightly put, the situation he was in demanded that whatever he gets was a boon. His cat was sick. What does Bailout Bill want in exchange for this generosity then? Nothing. Well, nothing much, atleast, really. His staff around the Booth hold up banners with his website printed on them. In such frantic media attention, people will definitely go and visit his website. But nothing of such theories matter to the people, as a certain Rogriguez put it. As he plainly put, people need money, and free cash is always better than nothing.
God bless this day. These are the words of every person who stood in the line to receive the cash. And why would it not be? Bailout Bill is not going to stop there. He also plans to go to Washington DC, Boston, and Philadelphia. I wonder if such generosity was shown by a someone here in India, what the situation would be like. There would be pandemonium, law and order would be out of place, cheap and dirty politicians would try to gain brownie points by garlanding him, people would try to cut the queue and then kill each other.
Kudos to the entrepreneur who took a step, an action.
