An eighteen-year-old father was sentenced to one year in prison and three years of probation for the horrendous attack on his four-month-old son. The man, Justin Ahles of Sheboygan, was sentenced to jail for a year with school release privileges for shaking his infant son so hard that the infant sustained a brain injury. The infant also had numerous broken ribs that indicated more than just one case of abuse.
Ahles pleaded no contest back in November and could have faced only three years in prison, but received one year and probation. The child has received a life sentence of possible developmental problems caused by the brain injury.
The father said that the infant, who has acid reflux, was crying and would not stop so he shook him only three times causing his head to snap back and forth. The broken ribs were caused by prior squeezing records show. Although the infant boy was listed with life threatening injuries, he is now out of serious danger.
Ahles was given credit for 135 days served as he has been in jail since his arrest.
Public outrage is felt every time another child abuser is given such a light sentence. Child abuse is a serious crime and should be met with lengthy prison sentences.
