National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell gave some Detroit Lions fans a breath of relief today, informing the Lions that there streak of playing on Thanksgiving would be safe; for now! Mr. Goodell made it very clear that things for the Lions could change very quickly coming as soon as after the 2009 season.
During a news conference with the Commissioner, Roger informed the public that he and the owners of all the National Football League teams will meet later in the year to discuss different options for teams playing on Thanksgiving Day. The Lions have been a staple on Thanksgiving Day since 1934, but the recent plummet of the team has brought complaints to Mr. Goodell to rotate in some different more exciting match-ups. It does not help that 5 out of the last 6 Lions games were blacked out making the Lions even less appealing.
I feel like this is a terrific idea if it actually goes through. I personally am so sick of Thanksgiving Day football because the games are so boring to watch. The football games this year made the Macy's Day Parade look like the Superbowl. Who wants to watch the Detroit Lions get massacred on the holidays? Not I. We need to feature this glorious football day with a prime time match-up sparking interest again on Thanksgiving and bringing football fans what they really crave besides the turkey leg and drum sticks.
