Edwin Negrin on his birthday got arrested for the charges of theft, attempted theft, and forgery. Burlington police have arrested him for the crimes and he is being held on a $20,000 cash bond.
One of his customers, a woman, contacted the police about an SUV she had purchased him a week back. The woman who was suspicious about the vehicle carrying plates while purchase, waited for a week for the title before she contacted the police. She informed them that she was only getting excuses of delay.
"The woman paid $11,200 for a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe, after finding Negrin through Craigslist, a free online classified site.", Burlington Police Investigator Rodney Thurin said.
"He had what appeared to be normal paperwork for the sale of a car, but he didn't have the title.”
Thurin ran the plate and VIN number, to find out the SUV belonged to Enterprise.
Thurin also explained that the accused had multiple excuses of why he didn't have the title. He said he was neutralizing businesses in the area and outside the state. He said he was selling the fleet of vehicles for money to keep his employees because times are tough.
Negrin licitly leased the vehicles, and they had not been reported stolen, according to the police.
Thurin said Negrin is wanted elsewhere in the state for fraud. If convicted on all charges, Negrin could face up to $97,500 in fines and 36 years imprisonment.
