Obama: Inaugural Hope cartoon

Enjoy global cartoons and perspectives as we celebrate Obama with hope as well as humor to lighten our spirits during challenging times!

It was an electric and inspiring day and night as we witnessed the inauguration of Barack Obama! Over 2 million Americans (a visual sea of humanity) braved the cold in Washington D.C. to watch the inauguration of the 44th President of the United States. The imagery, stunning performances, historic ceremony, artful speeches, walk down Pennsylvania Avenue and inaugural balls were powerful, emotional and uplifting!

The Obamas are amazing role models and such a beautiful representation of America in a new era. At the final inaugural ball, the new President reinforced his message about re-creating the country. He stated 'this is not the end but the beginning' and 'government is going to need you every step of way' which has set the tone for the road ahead.

Vice President Joe Biden also spoke during the night saying, 'We do not have to accept circumstances the way they are, we can change them.' This 'building from the ground up' is a continuation of the theme Obama created at the beginning of his campaign (evolving into 'Yes we can' and 'anything is possible' if we unite as a country).

I voted for and support Obama (but have no allegiance to any party) because I think he is equal to the task and was the best candidate with strong and honorable qualities. I am also inspired by the historic nature of this day as I was yesterday in celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day. President Obama is a beautiful symbolic (and literal) blend demonstrating the human spirit, will and ability to break beyond barriers (religious, ethnic, etc).

We have made a lot of progress as a country in a short amount of time. However, we (our country and humanity) still have work to do and need to take responsibility for our mistakes. There is still a tremendous need for evolution of consciousness which will lead to more peace, understanding, compassion, acceptance, etc. (check out A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle http://eckharttolle.com/a_new_earth for related reading on this topic).

We need to be fair and not be under any illusions about a perfect Obama presidency, especially given the enormous issues he is inheriting (Bush received more hyper-criticism than even he deserved). Obama is undoubtedly enormously capable, but he faces daunting challenges on multiple fronts. However, we should still embrace the hopeful sentiment ignited during Obama's campaign and inauguration.

It will come down to a question of leadership as David Gergen from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government astutely asserts in his article 'A question of presidential leadership.' Obama is highly cognizant of the challenges and is acutely aware of the need for a 'dream-team' in his administration to quickly establish direction and execute the right strategies to tackle such complex problems.

So no matter who you are (Democrat, Republican, Independent, etc.) or where you came from, let us give support to Obama so we can succeed as nation. We need unity now more than ever!

Share your perspective here. I'm posting my piece on Allvoices because it is an edited site and encourages all global opinions. It would be great to hear from our brothers and sisters around the world!

Good report, GoGreen.

Initially, I was a Ron Paul supporter. I even donated money to his campaign and registered as a Republican so I could vote for him in the primary. I still think that if the GOP had nominated him, he would have won in November - especially since he would have come out against the bailout that both McCain and Obama supported.

Here's something I wrote in late September about why, with Paul not winning the GOP nod, Obama was the best choice:

http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/1412049-ron-paul

In the General Election, I voted for Obama, and I did so enthusiastically. It really is a question of leadership, which is something I think Dr. Paul would have provided as president while none of the other GOP hopefuls were capable of anything other than talking about out-Bushing Bush.

While I think Paul's economic ideas are probably more sound in the long run than Obama's, I nonetheless understand the rationale behind the stimulus package(s). If Obama can make sure the banks and Wall Street aren't going to bamboozle the American people, then his approach might work, too.

Obama has a tough job ahead, but I think he will do just fine.

As Gerald Ford said of the whole Nixon/Watergate Affair after taking office in 1974, "The long national nightmare is over."

Hey Punditty! Thanks so much for your comment and for sharing your interesting perspective (and report). Obama probably faces the most intense challenges of any US president who was entering his first term, but agree that he'll do a good job.

Cheers! GG

A good compromise, a good piece of legislation, is like a good sentence; or a good piece of music. Everybody can recognize it. They say, 'Huh. It works. It makes sense.'

Good post Gogreen!

Obama is not just America's President but a leader figure to this world. His decisions will have a direct impact on the future of so many nations. We all need to stand up and unite with him, if he has promised to serve everyone's interest.

Good luck
Reply By GoGreen GoGreen | 10 months ago
Thanks so much maidiya my dear friend! You're so right that Obama's decisions will have a heavy impact on the future of our nation as well as many others. Yes, we do all need to stand up and unite with him. I believe he has great integrity and is a moral/ethical man. He'll have many intensely complicated decisions to make, but I think and hope he'll move the country in the right/best direction so as to strength our nation but not at the expense of others.

Every nation has its own self-interests, but we need to continue to work together globally to achieve common goals that will benefit all of humanity. The US has a great responsibility to help others and not negatively impact the conditions of others. It's very complicated and difficult, but we must do our best! The US of course suffers from 'tall poppy syndrome' which means it's criticized the most since it's the most visible, but important for the gov't and citizens to understand and take responsibility for how they impacts the world.

Peace and kindest regards maidiya! GG

now please dont' say this that earlier he was selling us HOPE and now he is selling us FEAR. Things dont' change so quickly...it takes time! what has changed is the way people have started to believe in themselves and the government! And for me this is the real change for the moment.
