In the reporting of the Fiji floods, Australian mainstream news programs have been painfully limited in telling this story. Instead of focusing on the fact that around seven people have been killed by this natural disaster and several thousand displaced, all that is mentioned is that Australian tourists have not been able to leave the luxury resorts.
Whilst it is unfortunate that holiday-goers are stranded, wouldn’t one consider the devastations of seven people’s death more important?
Too often this is seen in Australian news. On another Australian news program, just two days ago, the story of the devastation in the Gaza strip was told after the story of a dog being rescued by Fire and Rescue.
I’m not sure if this is just an Australian habit but I would love to know.
