More than 120 cases of pirate attacks against tankers and cargo ships occurred in the region last year.
The US Navy will launch a multinational naval force next week to cope with pirates off the coast of Somalia.
Many countries will take part in the US-led task force. However, more than 20 countries are expected to join and it is likely to include countries such as Britain, France and China, who have already deployed ships off the coast of Somalia.

Since 2001, the US Navy has been leading a multinational naval force to crack down on the smuggling of illegal drugs and weapons in the Indian Ocean and elsewhere, but this will be the first US-led task force against pirates.
Last month the UN Security Council voted to authorize nations fighting piracy to conduct air and land attacks on pirate bases in Somalia.
