J.L French Automotive Castings In Sheboygan, Wisconsin Lays Off More People

J.L. French Automotive Castings produces and develops die cast aluminum components and assemblies for the automotive industry. The company makes transmission cases, engine blocks, engine front covers and oil pans. The company size is listed between 201 to 500 employees. The company is said to have seventy-three percent employed males and twenty-seven percent employed females.

Employees of J.L. French had two weeks off for Christmas and New Years only to return to work on January 5 to find out that work is down and they would only work three days this week. This comes after lay offs before the Christmas shut down.

The Taylor Drive plant will still be running some machines, but it looks like the Gateway Plant is down to running one machine and laid off over one hundred people and more followed as production needs dwindled.

This comes in the wake of the GM shut down of all its plants for one month. Even the bailout cannot help the companies that make parts for the “Big Three” because they still have so many cars that need to sell.

Dealerships are offering incentives to buy the cars, but with the economy the way it is, who wants to take that chance. Hyundai is even offering to buy back your car in the first year if you lose your job. Is that worth the time and trouble of even getting a loan?

J.L. French has been in operation for years and has always been strong. In wake of this latest automakers disaster, it can only mean more lay offs in the near future. The Gateway Plant is the newer of the two plants and will surely feel the crunch more than the Taylor Drive Plant because they make a lot of truck parts.

Employees of the Taylor Drive Plant will return to work Monday January 12 when they will find out if more lay offs are in the future.

I think it is importan that people know whats going on. The lay offs are not going to stop anyhwere or for any company. It seems like it will get worst before it gets better.
