Egypt sets forth cease fire initiative to Israeli aggression in Gaza

11 days past Israeli ongoing massacres in Gaza, it seems that the world has finally resorted to wisdom which calls seriously for cease fire. Yet, recent initiatives might not have been motivated by wisdom as much as by the scenes of bloodsheds and death of women and children which bodies are scattered in the streets of Gaza.
The initiative of cease fire set forth by Egyptian President Husni Mubarak in a press conference with his French counterpart Nicolas SarkozyNicolas Sarkozy in Cairo, might be the optimal solution to rescue Gaza despite that the UN Security Council which convened on the ministerial level in the presence of Palestinian President Mahmoud AbbasPalestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has failed to issue a resolution of cease fire on Tuesday night and delayed the decision till Wednesday.
UN Chief Ban Ki Moon who is heading to the Middle East mid this week urged the Security Council to adopt a resolution of immediate cease fire in Gaza. He called as well to agree on an international mechanism to lift embargo of Gaza and open all passages.
As for Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas, he called on the Security Council to accelerate the resolution based on the joint French-Egyptian initiative to stop Israeli aggression on Gaza and remove embargo. Abbas warned that any stalling, delaying or compromises will push the country into further violence and extremism.
British Foreign Secretary David MilibandDavid Miliband expressed London’s support to efforts of cease fire including endeavors of French and Egyptian Presidents.
In her turn, US Secretary of State Condoleeza RiceCondoleeza Rice showed support to Israel despite backing the Egyptian initiative in principle noting that Washington is seeking to end violence. Rice justified Israeli military action saying that Hamas Islamic Movement did not respect truce affirming that Israel does not intent to harm civilians.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ali BabacanAli Babacan called for an immediate cease fire and halt of Israeli military operations and aggression as well as opening passages and lifting embargo. He noted that Turkey cannot remain silent towards innocents killing in Gaza.
On the other hand, US elect-President Barack ObamaBarack Obama broke silence by expressing his concern over the situation in Gaza saying that killing civilians in not acceptable. “We are going to engage effectively and consistently in trying to resolve the conflicts that exist in the Middle East,” he told reporters.

Czech Foreign Minister Karel SchwarzenbergKarel Schwarzenberg whose country currently holds the European Union rotating presidency, said that there is still no sight of a solution to Gaza but expected cessation. Schwarzenberg leading an EU ministerial delegation to the Middle East added that EU foreign policy chief Javier SolanaJavier Solana was “on his way to Cairo and Tel Aviv to continue the work” that the EU has started.
On Tuesday, diplomacy was highly active in order to find a solution to Gaza as French President Nicolas Sarkosy visited the region and met with Egyptian president Husni Mubarak, then Syrian President Bashar Al Assad in Damascus as well Lebanese President Michel Sleyman in Beirut.
