A Norwegian skier Fred Syversen made an accidental ski world record last year when he soared over a 107 meter (351 feet) in the French Alps. The skier was preparing to undertake a massive cliff jump but when he jumped, he accidently veered off his original course and ended up flying towards a much larger drop at 50mph.
Syversen recalled the moment, “Breaking or trying to stop was no longer an option. It simply went too fast. If I had tried that I wouldn’t write this. So that left one choice: go for it, and do it right.”
Almost a year after this accidental ski record breaking, the video of the record breaking jump was leaked. The record has been in contention because of a lack of evidence. But after the leakage of video it is now proved that it was absolutely an accidental record jump.
Syversen survived the accidental jump by luckily avoiding big rocks and was landed in deep snow. He was dug out by his friends from a two-meter hole and then he was taken to the hospital. Miraculously, he did not receive any major injuries and the only injury he sustained was a minor damage to his liver.
This skier wanted to make a record jump, he accidentally got into an even more dangerous, and more deeper jump but at the end of the day, he not only survived the jump by keeping his calm and not losing his control over his flight, he ended up making the record jump.
I say, this incident was more than just an accidental record jump; it was a real-life example of ‘do or die’ situation. Hats off to the brave skier!
