Jacob Young, 12, was among 150 people who braved the cold for the opportunity to see the Queen as she visited a Church at Sandringham.
Jacob had been walking in the nearby woods with his parents. He was quite a daunting figure in a green beret, camouflage clothing and boots. But Jacobs was keen enough to get close to the Queen to willingly surrender his wooden gun to security forces. Knowing that it could be an issue, he passed it on to the security guards who hung it over the fence while the Royal Family passed by.
Security indeed was tight in the area as all visitors ventured through a metal detector before they were allowed to get close.
30 children passed on flowers to the Queen following the service. The Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Edward were on site as well. Edward didn't understand what all the commotion was about and was heard calling the crowd 'bonkers' as he passed it.
