Comets

Tiny diamonds have been discovered sprinkled across North America. They are being taken as evidence of a stream of comets that struck the Earth 13,000 years ago. They seem to have caused enough disruption to plunge the planet into a cold spell and drive creatures such as mammoths into extinction. Scientists speculate that the explosions would be the equivalent of thousands of atomic bombs in the atmosphere.

The nanodiamonds discovered were created under conditions of extreme temperature and pressure. It is believed that the exact conditions can only be created under cosmic impact. Analogous collisions occurred in Siberia in 1908 flattening out trees for miles around.

The nanodiamonds under scrutiny have been discovered in as disparate locations as South Carolina, Arizona and Alberta in Canada.

The event coincides with a period beyond which a cold spell spanned 1,300 years. Several animal species such as mammoths, sloths, camels and saber-toothed cats became extinct. The Clovis culture of American Indians also seems to have been destroyed in this period.

The nanodiamonds have been associated with the particular time period based on their placement within sediments traced to that era.
