I think the article does carry some sense..."The post American World" a latest book by Farid Zakria also carry the same opinion......but in my opinion the deadline 2010 is quite early ...i think the down fall of US would take a little more time....Another important issue is whether America would disintigrate or loose its power...these are two different concepts...i think the later one is carrying much substance....
For muslims....Most of the hawkish elements in Islamic world would take this article not as the down fall of USA rather the rise of the Muslims which is entirely a wrong opinion...i think the down fall of US is nothing to do with the rise of Muslims rather China or Canada can be the potential replacement of the world power...

Well, thank you so much for such an interesting and opinionated comment dear friend. I agree with your viewpoint and for one, I also think the deadline is way too early for such a catastrophe to happen.

Thanks again, Azaz Syed. Hope to see more of you!

its not a catastrophe, atleast the rest of the world can breathe....

Hey Prodiglow, the rest of the world won’t just breathe; they will even manage to sleep properly with cute little unicorns returning in their dreams, but it sure is going to be a catastrophe for U.S!

Interesting prediction! However, I really don't see it happening. Definitely not in 2010. I think the U.S. will still cause a lot of other nations to break up before that ever happens to it!

I believe that it is a joke. I know the economy is week but I think that we still have the upper control that we should have. The one weakness I do see is that they need to quit letting the rich get richer and the poor to get poorer. Then and only then I believe that we will remain as one.
  • Reply By Majdy Majdy | 11 months ago
Agreed! But dear friend, even that upper control is true reflection of what is happening inside U.S. Just the way, U.S. is suppressing small and powerless, poor and developing nations and siding with the developed, more influential nations, it is doing the same within borders by creating a gap that is growing bigger and bigger between the rich and poor. If that continues, I can’t say anything about disintegration, it is too far fetched a thought but a civil unrest can be very much expected. Let’s hope for the best for everyone. :-)

More likely, the United States, Canada and Mexico will form some version of a "North American Union" modeled loosely after the European Union. Although primarily billed as a trade federation, it will by necessity entail military obligations. Goodbye dollar, hello Amero or something equally so named as to reflect the NAU's economic might. This will happen sooner rather than later, and could in fact be the defining legacy of the Obama presidency if he wins a second term.

Best laugh line by the KBG functionary: China controlling Utah. Ha! Not anymore than it already does through financial investments.

There are many other factors to consider here. The effect this proposed disintegration will have on the world economy and global stability. Think what you will of the US in regard to failed foreign policy and corrupt politics, but they remain an obstacle in the path of other nations like North Korea and Iran for example, who demonstrate extremist ideologies/agendas in regard to government and world politics.
Without the possibility or concern of U.S. intervention, militarilly or in the form of economic sanctions, the world stage may become quite a scary and chaotic place.
And correct me if I'm wrong, but there has never been to my knowledge any nation to have done this peacefully. I have always thought the U.S. to be a tender box in regard to it's capitalist economy and multi-ethnic population. The conditions there are now prime for similar events that occurred in the former Yugoslavia.
If there were an actual disintegration of the U.S. a civil conflict would more than like occur (as we've seen in past history) resulting not only in massive human loss, but overall instability of the free world.
