citizenjournal, seeing pictures of these dead innocent kids is awful. I want to cry! God help them and all of us.
  • Posted By Avsok Avsok | 11 months ago
This is inconceivable. It just shows how insane we really are. Is this even real? I read the articles and it is hard for me to grasp the reality of this situation. Have we completely lost our minds? I really hope this will stop immediately, it can not continue to go on. This is not us. How can this be allowed?

Avsok, I agree with you, how could something like this happen today in this civilized world.
  • Posted By citizenjournal citizenjournal | 11 months ago
Hi,amra/Avosk!, "WORDS cannot explain how we all feel". Let me quote 'Sufyan ibn Uyayna'-

"God sometimes has mercy on a whole nation because of the weeping of a sad, broken-hearted one."

Our hearts bleed for the suffering and pains of our brothers and sisters in Gaza, who are victims of this aggression.

We ask Almighty, from the depth of our hearts, to alleviate their suffering and remove their pains.

I agree. This is indeed so wrong and heartbreaking! Let's pray for an immediate truce between Israel and Hamas as well as comfort and aid to the suffering and innocent.

It's a really sad situation. This isn't self defense at all. It's just cruelty. You can't justify killing innocent people and children. I agree with the comments above that something like this is not at all expected to happen in a civilized world. These attacks need to stop.

Thank you for alerting us citizenjournal. This breaks my heart especially since it involves the most innocent; the children. This is the worst kind of human tragedy.

Even though Hamas is fighting and firing into Israel, it seems Israel has been much more unreasonable, aggressive and has never understood the plight/dilemma of Palestinians after trying to re-claim the region during the Zionist movement. Israel is more powerful so for them to fire into heavily populated Gaza killing so many innocent people is despicable and nefarious. Israel also thwarted a humanitarian mission to Gaza. I'm in the US, and I don't care if Israel is an ally, there's no excuse for this. No decent citizen would condone ruthless, unjustified aggression and murder, and all governments have done it.

I agree with Avsok and Amra1 that it's shocking to see this in a supposedly civilized world. Since the world isn't perfect and some people do not or cannot think intelligently or have good intentions, I know how this happens, but we cannot allow it! May God bless all the victims in Gaza and alleviate their suffering. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I just don't understand. I truly, deeply, do not understand. What exactly does this purposeful violent act serve to change?

I understand that the Israeli implement these violent attacks in order to instill terror and fear in the Palestinians and from what I learned in high school about the ongoing war between Israelis and Palestinians, to somehow take back the land that each people claim to be their own. The perpertrators hope to win this war of endurance, wearing down the enemy by causing pain and taking lives of loved ones, hoping that soon, by killing all these innocent people, the real people in charge of change will back down. However, how exactly is mercilessly murdering and wounding thousands of innocent (and I mean completely innocent) people going to settle the dispute between who owns the Gaza Strip? (This historical, political fact is still no completely clear to me, but I think that the Gaza Strip is the particular site of conflict?) How does destroying hospitals and mosques and schools and fragile lives prove who gets to own the land in question? This war has raged on for centuries, CENTURIES, and the neither side has backed down. I'm afraid that too much blood has been spilled and what is truly the decline of humanity is soon to occur -- both sides will disappear, both cultures will flicker out like the flames used to light up the Israeli and Palestinian religious ceremonies that each culture so proudly protect and yet so brazenly and so sadly and so unknowingly destroy.

The attacks are unforgiveable especially with regards to the calculated assault on the maximum number of innocent civilians. The death of the five girls reminds me of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in my home state of Alabama. The tragic event occurred during the African American struggle for equality. This particular day a protest was occurring in the streets of Birmingham, and the three African American girls asked their moms if they could join. Fearing the violence that would inevitably break out, the mothers forbade their children to go to the protest but allowed them to pray in the church on 16th Street. Two white men placed a bomb in the church and the three little girls died, praying for a peaceful future. It is sad that even in a mosque, in a church, in a religious sanctuary, peace can no longer be found.

Even if this violence were to be understood, there is a stark difference between understanding and condoning. The eyewitness in the article is correct; Israel was not defending herself. She was actively and purposely killing people, and she is indeed in violation of the international humanitarian law of the Geneva Convention. With this blatant violation and the previous blatant violations done by BOTH sides, what has been one, but most importantly, what will be done to stop these beautiful cultures from destroying each other and losing the true meaning of what they were fighting for to begin with?

Houses, Mosques, Schools, Universities, Dormitories??? They killed innocent CHILDREN and WOMEN??? What in the world were they thinking? What harm to them were those poor innocent unarmed children? Can they justify their brutalities? Do they think they can give a logical explanation to this entire massacre? No! If only death could be brought unto them who take hundreds of innocents lives away without a tear in their eyes and cringe of pain in their hearts! :-(

    I have just two questions;

1: why doesn't the rest of the Arab world help the Palestinians?
(money, arms, politics, humanitarian, infrastructure, ect)
Kind of like the way that America helps Israel.
I have heard that the Arab world has said to the Palestinians, if you exterminate the Jews we will help you, but only then.

2: What exactly would the Arab world like the state of Israel to do?

    leave?
    to where?

and if this is not a possibility what are the chances of just having an all out war? would that solve it?
Keeping in mind the results of the 6 Day War and the nuke capabilities of involved nations

Now that been said, i am very angry and disappointed at the treatment of the Palestinian children from both sides.
child soldiers are everywhere and we are all to blame for that one

I do not condone Jew Settlers beating up, taking over, splitting generations old farmland, or denying humanitarian aid.

I support Israel...but my support is waning to apathy.
I am also trying to learn without the propaganda bullshit

There must be a better way but it looks to me all Arabs want is for the extermination of the Israeli state.
Which no human can call for unless they want them and theirs to be next on that list

@...deeply heart, and feel angry that this time around the response of the international community is muted. This shows that Israel has been quite successful in Coordinating its media offensive and is ahead in the media war. There has been, "no dramatic condemnations [from world leaders], only the expected and generic calls for calm and cease-fire,"

I actually cringed when I saw these pictures. This is way beyond horrifying. What an end of the year for these people. While the rest of us are geared up to celebrate new years, it really makes one feel so bad for doing so :(

"If you want to make peace, you don't talk to your friends. You talk to your enemies."
    - Moshe Dayan

Could it be that there are those factions - both Israeli and Palestinian - who actually do not want peace? If that's the case, could they please explain why violence and the omnipresent threat of violence is preferable to peace? If that's *not* the case, and people really do want peace and peaceful co-existence, perhaps it's time to focus more media attention on the desire for peaceful coexistence among inhabitants of the Mideast.

I agree with you Punditty. Its amazing how after years and years of such violent activities there is still no solution. Lets take example of Indo-Pakistan. The conflict was of a non-peaceful existence of different groups, but eventually a truce was made. There was a blood shed but it came to a stand still after a while. People lost their lives for a purpose.

What i think is that these innocent children are giving away their lives for a cause that has no hope! Generations and generations have been part of it. If Iran is supporting Palestine and USA is supporting Israel, why not for a peacefull purpose? hate begot hate.

This Israeli attack seems like, 'lets eradicate the root of the problem, i.e. People of Gaza once and for all!' But unlike some specie that might go extinct due to over killing, these are humans residing in Gaza, even if a soul lives on that piece of land, he will continue with the struggle!

It tears apart one's heart to see these photographs.

This means that human race is turning gradually into animals in a big jungle where the stronger kills the weaker. World peace and justice are at risk. And history tells that the victory of today is a defeat of tomorrow and this leads to an endless chain of wars until all human race is dead race.

Salah! I agree with you as there is no winner or looser in a war;it is the poor, unarmed, non-combatant who pay the ultimate price. As far as the situation in Gaza is concerned...though on the ground Israel looks far superior militarily and it's response have been ruthless but the people in Gaza have become more resilient and united in their opposition to Israeli brutality. No wonder like in case of Lebanon, in occupied Palestine, Hamas will emerge more stronger after this conflict both in Gaza and West Bank.
Israel is in a no win situation in Gaza!
