On December 27, 2008, UM Healthcare Trust organized yet another successful medical camp for the poor and needy at its Zahidabad facility (200 KM north of Islamabad) in rural Mardan District of NWFP province of Pakistan.
Over 500 patients were treated in a camp that last 5 hours. As expected, majority of the patients were female (50%) while 30% were male. The rest of the 20% were children upto the age of 12.
We had a wonderful team of four doctors who made this medical camp possible. Led by Dr. Asif Sardar, they worked tirelessly all day treating these patients began trickling into the facility at eight in the morning.
Free medicines were also provided to the needy and poor.
UM Healthcare Trust was established as a non-profit in memory of late Mrs Umrana Mumtaz as part of her last will and testament. The facility provides subsidized medical care to the poor and needy in the rural district of Mardan. This is also the home of Pakistan's first rural tele-healthcare center in Pakistan being developed in collaboration with NUST and APPNA.
