Expression ‘Islamic terror’ unacceptable
Mukherjee says protest be launched against use of term
NEW DELHI: Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee Monday said Islam preaches love and communal harmony and rejects terrorism.
"Not only is this expression Islamic terrorism unacceptable, there should be protest against it. Islam has nothing to do with terrorism. The patriotism of Muslims is no less than others in the country," Mukherjee said in a programme to mark 200 years of the Bengali translation of the Quran in Kolkata.
Mukherjee said universal brotherhood was the basis of Islam which attracted people all over the world to it.
After 9/11, Mukherjee said people in Europe and US coined the phrase 'Islamic terrorism' and tried to project as it was a conflict between Islamic and Christian civilisations.
He also rejected those people who described Islam as a religion of fundamentalists. Mukherjee challenged them to show part of the Holy Book which encouraged fundamentalism. He said universal brotherhood was the basis of Islam which attracted people all over the world to it.
