In a shocking incident, a three month old infant was immersed into a vessel full of boiling water and lifted out by his own parents at Jumalapur village in Bijapur district. Reports suggest the couple were just following orders from the village priest. Fortunately the baby is safe and didn’t utter a sound even after its appalling experience. The atrocious act was supposedly watched by the village folks.
The parents, Prabhavati and Sanganagouda looked unafraid, and in fact, were happy that they were performing the ritual. On further probe, it was learned that the couple were childless a few years ago. Fed up, the disappointed couple prayed that their wish be fulfilled. Hanumantray Hugar, priest of Balabhim temple of Jumalapur village told them, that they will be blessed with two children, one of which will die early and the second child should be dipped in boiling water as a religious ritual. In due course, the first baby was born, but died early. The second one was born within a year, and the ritual was performed.
Vinny’s take: How on earth can someone dip a 3 month old in boiling water? People reach unprecedented heights of insanity hypnotized by rogues claiming they can dictate life under the name of religion. Superstitions are deeply rooted in our society. Unrealistic rituals should be banned and people encouraging those should be immediately put under trial. Government should fund and encourage awareness campaigns. With a literacy rate of 65%, educating the masses is of prime importance in India. Higher priority should be given to subjects like “Moral Science” and a sense of responsibility should be inculcated in individuals
