In this beginning of the New Year, I offer cordial greetings and good wishes to men and women everywhere, especially those who are suffering as a result of violence and armed conflicts. My greeting is one filled with hope for a more serene world, a world in which more and more individuals and communities are committed to the paths of justice and peace.

Peace is an irrepressible yearning present in the heart of each person, regardless of his or her particular cultural identity. Consequently, everyone should feel committed to service of this great good, and should strive to prevent any form of untruth from poisoning relationships. All people are members of one and the same family. An extreme exaltation of differences clashes with this fundamental truth. We need to regain an awareness that we share a common destiny which is ultimately transcendent, so as to maximize our historical and cultural differences, not in opposition to, but in cooperation with, people belonging to other cultures. These simple truths are what make peace possible; they are easily understood whenever we listen to our own hearts with pure intentions. Peace thus comes to be seen in a new light: not as the mere absence of war, but as a harmonious coexistence of individual citizens within a society governed by justice, one in which the good is also achieved, to the extent possible, for each of them. The truth of peace calls upon everyone to cultivate productive and sincere relationships; it encourages them to seek out and to follow the paths of forgiveness and reconciliation, to be transparent in their dealings with others, and to be faithful to their word.

Dear vishnughimire ...so true are your words...i really agree with you and i am very much fed up by the violence and hope that the new year 2009 be as peaceful as you talked about.. i wish the whole people of this earth should practice meditation for the betterment of the society. Year 2009 should be the year of Meditation and Spiritual Growth of the Soul.

Yes, I agree with you vishnughimire, and your comment is amazing. Like you said so well and open-heartedly, we are all one and same family and should all be committed to peace. I, too, hope for a more harmonious and peaceful world. I'm particularly cognizant of and sensitive to all those who are suffering for any reason, and my heart reaches out to them.

I also really liked your the last few sentences:

We log on here everyday, spill it all out through our words, words that are supported by anyone and everyone here. We all want peace and a fair departure in the end when our call finally comes.

(I apologize for my late participation!)

Before Oct 4th, this year had been just another one about to pass and I was thinking yet another year will pass away like many before it, and what have I done in all those years that I should be proud of; that should make me feel that I have done justice to my existence in this world. I was a person with a lot of dreams and ambitions but no sense of direction. I was present in this world but my presence was not good enough in my own eyes!

Then came Oct 4th – the day I came across allvoices. I never thought my desire to bring change to this world, to express my thoughts and to become a valuable part of this world would come true so easily. A dream of mine changed into reality – the day I cherish now and will forever!

I am a proponent of peace, optimistic realism, humanity, justice, love, and brotherhood, and I believe the greatest of wars and change can be brought upon not by swords or weapons but by power of expression. I found great friends, my dearest of all, Vishnu, CoolDeep, Pranay, Aarana, Starsandstripes, Maidiya, Solitaire, Johnnyg, Emsheikh, Punditty, Citizenjournal, GoGreen and many more whom I have missed pointing out here. I have not only learned a lot from my dear friends, I have truly become a better person!

Paula and Amra – the two women I adore the most, the two women who inspire me the most and two women I have set for myself THE benchmark! I love being part of allvoices and I adore you and literally love you guys for giving all of us such a wonderful platform to express ourselves and make a difference in this world.

From my side, I wish the whole management team of allvoices, Paula, Amra and all my allvoices friends, Merry Christmas and a happy Happy New Year! :-) May peace prevail and love rule this world. Allvoices is a great forum, and its heartening to read this post and the comments that have followed. I thought 2008 was a bad year, however, 2009 has had its share of reported catastrophies and tragedies, the foremost of which I would call the globalised recession that has taken place. At the end of 2008, I had written a foreword (in the magazine, for which I am one of the editors) which quoted the lines of the Counting Crows song, "A long December, and there's reason to believe, maybe this year will be better than the last", and all I can say is that hope remains alive, and till the time we are alive and carry that hope in our hearts, we still have the chance to contribute towards making this world a better place, in whatever little ways we can manage.
I consider our little contributions to allvoices one of those ways, and I hope that we can grow stronger as a community and exchange and interact meaningfully, and without malice or personal attacks. We are, after all, but one world and all voices need to come together and chorus peace and harmony for all.

Here let me join and wish you all too, as a wishful way to greet allvoies people as the New Year begins. Slowly and steadily Year 2008 is creating space for year 2009 to step in. People are ready to cherish the memories of 2008, learn from their mistakes and make resolutions of not repeating them in the coming year.
