Early Monday, theafter a five-day debate overshadowed by
protests and violence sparked by a boy's fatal shooting by police this month, Greek parliament passes budget for 2009 amid street violence.
Before the budget,Street violence raged.
The conservatives of Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis secured the budget's approval despite their razor-thin parliamentary majority, amid strong opposition by the left and far-right.

Yesterday,100 youths briefly took over an Orthodox church in the northern city of Thessaloniki, remaining
inside the church for two hours before dispersing peacefully,the first time a church has been targeted in the protests.
