Efforts are deployed on the internal scale in Iraq to regulate the deployment of foreign troops in Iraq which was the result of Iraq war, 2003. It is to be noted that these moves are active on more than a level after long months of debate. Similiarly to the Status of Forces Agreement, is the pact of foreign troops withdrawal from Iraq including British troops which is the center of efforts that have resulted of a draft reslution giving the government authorization to regulate the activities of six countries’ forces and the NATO and their withdrawal from Iraq within the seven coming months.
In this context, defence and security committee member MP Abbas Al Bayati told Al Sabah Newspaper that the draft resolution includes three points namely, confirming the withdrawal of non-US Forces from Iraq by July 31, appointing the government to regulate the end of these forces’ temporary presence in the country until they withdraw fully, and ensuring that the resolution articles’ implementation starts from the day it is published in the official gazette.
On the other hand, reports have noted that forming special committees to implement the articles of US-Iraqi security pact is about to be completed.
On the external level specifically inside the UN Security Council, Washington’s representative to the UN Zalmay Khalil Zad has officially distributed the draft resolution that removes Iraq from UN Charter Chapter VII and protects its funds while it calls on Iraq neighbors and regional countries to support Iraq and Iraqi Government. The resolution calls as well on the Security Council to review previous resolutions concerning Iraq starting with the Resolution of impsoing sanctions on Kuwait invasion. Source:
