It's not just to do with that. It's what the man has achieved and it is phenomenal in so many ways. I can't think of anyone else who deserves to be Person of the Year more than Mr. President-elect.

If Obama is the Person of the Year, then the News of the Year should be Bush getting hit by a shoe and that Shoe should be awarded with the best Prop of the Year!

It's perfectly understandable that Obama was named TIME's person of the year. However, here's something to think about: If the Republicans had managed to win the 2008 election, would McCain or Palin be better suited for Person of the Year? My vote, if I had one, would have to go for Palin. At least for Person of the Second Half of the Year.

Fortunately, that's just parlor game material now. Soon we will be watching as TIME's Person of the Year begins his presidency.

Yes, he begins his Presidency with two scandals involving his staff already. More like the Clinton era all over again.
