Pakistan GEO TV reports:
Indian fighter planes Saturday violated Pakistan’s air space by entering two places in Kashmir and Lahore.Planes of Pakistan Air Force quickly came into action and forced the India’s fighter jets to leave Pakistan air space.
Planes of Pakistan Air Force (PAF), which were already on alert, quickly came into action and forced the India’s fighter jets to leave Pakistan’s air space, Geo TV sources said.
The sources further said that the Indian planes were fully equipped with warheads.
A Pakistan air-force spokesman confirmed that fighter jets from the Indian air-force violated Pakistani Kashmir and Lahore sectors of Pakistan’s airspace on Saturday. Pakistan air-force and army had been placed on alert, but ‘did not wish to escalate the situation any further. The incident occurs against a backdrop of heightened tensions following deadly terrorist attacks in Mumbai.
President Asif Ali Zardari Saturday said Pakistan’s desire for peace in the region must not be misconstrued as ‘our weakness’.
He expressed these views while talking to the members of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians here.
President Zardari said the overall situation is being monitored closely and that all the decisions are being taken by keeping in view country’s interest.
He said no arrested person would be handed over to India.
India has so far failed to provide any concrete evidence to Pakistan, he informed.
President Asif Ali Zardari reiterated that the region would be transformed into a sign of peace.
Pakistan Air Commodore Himayun Viqar said the Indian aircraft crossed over the border some one to three miles (two to four kilometers) in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir and over the eastern city of Lahore. He would not say how many Indian aircraft were involved or give the exact time but said that Pakistani jets responded, forcing the Indian aircraft to turn back.
Attempts to get Indian comment were not immediately successful early Sunday morning.
However, in a statement, Pakistan Information Minister Sherry Rehman said the Indian Air Force had told Pakistan the incursion was "inadvertent. "(QUESTION ARISES THAT HOW IT CAN BE INADVERTENT WHEN THE VIOLATIONS OCCURRED AT TWO PLACE, HUNDREDS OF MILES APART, AT THE SAME TIME. Such a violation can not happen by mistake as there are defined corridors for military maneuvers.)"
"Our forces are on alert," Rehman said, adding, "There is no need for undue alarm."
Dawn news reported that some people travelling between Lahore and Rawalpindi said that they saw heavy movement of the Pakistan army on the way. ‘Long convoys of military trucks were heading towards Lahore from Jehlum,’ a motorist Jawad Khan told Dawn. The movement of army towards border area is a sign that tension between the two nuclear rivals, already heightened following the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, is likely to increase in the days to come.
Prime Minister Azad Jammu Kashmir Sardar Attique said this violation occured in North and South sectors of Kashmir. He said that this violation has increased tensions between two countries and such acts could be dangerous for regional peace.
Chairman PML-N Nawaz Sharif has condemned this intrusion and said that integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan would be defended at all costs.
Maulana Fazal Ur Rehamn has also condemned the incursion.
PARIS: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said Sunday to a press conference here in Paris that Indian leadership was fully aware of our reaction if India attacks Pakistan.
He strongly deplored the Mumbai attacks and added that we have extended our sympathy to the Indian government and its people on Mumbai carnage many times.
He also said that both India and Pakistan have equally fallen victim to terrorism however, considering Pakistan responsible for terrorism in the region could not help curb this menace and added that India knows Pakistan’s sacrifices that it laid down in combating terrorism.
FM Qureshi reiterated Pakistan’s offer to cooperate in investigation of Mumbai terror strikes while maintaining that indo-Pak friendship was in the greatest interest of the progress, prosperity and peace in the region.
Pakistan has rejected Indian accusations that it was the "epicentre of terrorism" and accused some Indian leaders of using it as a convenient scapegoat for their own political agendas.
"Because of domestic political compulsions, some Indian leaders have been looking for a scapegoat" for the recent Mumbai attacks, its foreign minister said on Saturday when asked to react to the Indian prime minister's accusation.
"And when you want a scapegoat, Pakistan is (for historical reasons) the obvious choice," Shah Mohammed Qureshi told reporters in Paris, adding: "We have to rise above our petty politics for the larger interest of the region."
Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh made the accusation on Thursday that Pakistan was the "epicentre of terrorism" .
Mr. Manmohan Singh while calling Pakistan the "epicentre of terrorism" you forget the terrorism emanating from India. To refresh your memory below is A list of terrorist groups with-in India. The Hindu Terrorist groups have deep roots in Indian Army and the Government as proved by the samjhauta train blast investigation. Mr. Singh please note that: Preliminary signs emerging from India’s power center, New Delhi, paint a picture of an unstable situation. Security is already compromised. But a bigger story is taking place in New Delhi, not Mumbai. There are disturbing signs that India, a nuclear-armed nation of a billion people, is witnessing a ‘soft coup’ attempt involving secular rightwing ideologues and Hindu nationalists.
Exploiting the fears of a traumatized nation and a government caught sleeping at the wheel, a core group of rightwing ideologues within India’s military, intelligence and political elite are trying to overthrow Manmohan Singh’s government. The plan apparently is to help the rise of rightwing elements in power and firmly push India in a confrontation with Pakistan and other countries in the region.
