In a chilling testimony, a South African court heard how a Cape Town woman killed her drug addicted son even after he begged for life and promised to start listening to her as she strangled him.
South Africa's major Sunday newspaper has reported how after years of abuse at the hands of her youngest son, Ellen Pakkies, 47, snapped and strangled the 20 year old in September last year.
According to the Sunday Times, the woman, a mother of three who used to work as a nurse, said that she tied a rope around her tick addicted son's neck.
"I asked why he wouldn't listen, why he didn't appreciate what we do for him. He said: 'Sorry mommy, I will start listening to you.' But I had heard that too many times before. I just kept tightening the rope", she said.
She stood over her son's lifeless body after the murder and asked God to forgive her.
The woman has been found guilty of murder and she is now waiting to be sentenced.
The Sunday Times reports that the abuse of tick, a crystal methamphetamine, has exploded in South Africa particularly in Cape Town.
