Internet votes Britney over Obama

Mr. Obama might have won the race to become the first black American President but in the world of Internet, Britney Spears beats him. According to the results of Yahoo Top 10 Search Items in 2008, Britney spears ranks number one followed by Obama in the personality category.

Britney spears has been the top searched term for last seven out of eight years, for one reason or the other. Her private life issues has always been the eye candy for the paparazzi, whether its getting her child's custody, several stays in rehab centers or crossing the law.

Yahoo has also created other interesting search categories to get a better picture of what the world has been searching the most for in 2008. This includes economics, politicians, news stories, the olympics, rising celebrities, influential women and those who died in last year.

Yahoo team believes that there is an evolution coming along as more and more people search internet for various purposes.

With Britney still holding the top searches, I fail to see the evolution they're talking about coming around!

You are right, it really is amazing how entertainment news are still on top on the most searched items, whether its Britney Spears or WWE. It does put question mark on the claims of world wide web gurus that internet is used as a replacement of traditional media, for information purposes.

One explanation could be that maybe the entertainment news is for the the demographics using the internet and we should wait a little longer to see how this generation evolves into a more information seeking audience. Maybe Yahoo people are not really hoping against the odds!

Haha…Good observation johnnyg! I was thinking about the same thing. We can definitely say that Yahoo expects these search preferences to be a massive stuck up in the evolution of internet search but certainly not the other way round. :-)

Maidiya lets just hope that this entertainment news seeking generation of ours evolve into a more information seeking audience as soon as it can! I am yearning to witness this kind of evolution. :-)
