In a land where our elders were taught the social norms of life and were told to teach the same to their offspring, now this land is home to people who take these values for granted. They have perceived the meanings of these values as how they want them to be followed. In simpler words, they have found a way in which they would not be accused of not following the values correctly while they can do whatever they want and get away with it.
The term ‘social values' is self explanatory that these norms are of the society that we live in. Hence it's our obligation towards it that we follow and abide by the rules that society has defined for us.
The first right of every human is to obtain education. In our society, education has become a business rather than what it ought to be. Due to that, most of our population, which consists of the poor, cannot even afford to eat twice a day let alone getting educated. The people who can afford to pay such high fee are actually the real force that has kept such business running. And yet a major part of our society remains illiterate and helpless in this regard.
The respect for elders by which a person's manners used to be judged before, has completely been wiped out with the help of displays of conflicts by the media. Almost in every show, whether it's on star world or star plus, whether it's a sitcom or a soap, portrayals of conflicts are shown in every relationship that leads to severe consequences where most the time, elders are shown giving up in front of their young. These sorts of displays leave a true impact of how helpless our elders have become and it is only them who are willing to compromise every single time.
These days one's clothes, cars and the amount of cash one carries is enough to judge a person. The more flashy clothes, the higher status that is further enhanced by expensive cars. To cut it short and easy to relate to, vulgarity has become a status symbol and being loaded with money is believed to have enhanced the charm.
One of the evils that was so disregarded at one time has been used so often that it has practically become legalized. Bribery. Today, everybody depends on it. People rely on it to get their work done and people rely on it to get others' work not done. It's only a matter of the cash you can give to get things done and undone.
These are only a few examples of the norms that have been ceased by us. Media has played a very important role in letting people forget the significance of social norms. Now all this has become a reality and we need to change it in a way that it only stays on the screen and we need to make sure that it doesn't influence our real life. We must bring these social norms back to life that have been so brutally murdered by us. They are our roots after all. We need to undo what we have done. It is about time we become civilized people and change the image to how it was before that is only vaguely familiar now.
