Arroyo weathers another impeachment move
Philippine president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has weathered another impeachment case against her, the fourth such case in as many years. The Philippine house of representatives voted 42-8 to rule the complaint was insufficient in substance. But critics say it was a simple play of numbers, with Arroyo loyalists controlling the lower house.
In 2007, members of the congress received cash gifts of 300,000 to 500,00 Philippines pesos after a previous impeachment case was junked in October that year.
