Terrorists have executed multiple coordinated attacks in South Mumbai (formerly Bombay), India's financial capital. More than 80 people are dead and many others injured. The targets include luxury hotels, restaurants, a cinema, a police station, a train station and a hospital.
The motive is unclear. However, the terrorist are clearly targeting foreigners. They are specifically asking people if they have British or American passports and are asking to see proof.
The terrorist engaged in a shoot out with police as they tried to enter the hospital. Currently terrorists are still holding many hostages. Several of the hostages are westerners though it is not clear from what country.
Unfortunately, India is known to have terrorist groups residing in the country. In 2007, India lost over 2,000 people to terrorist attacks. Indian relations with Pakistan regarding disputed Kashmir had been improving with the new Pakistani president Asif Ali Zardari in place. The Kashmir extremist groups have been very active however.
The devastating details are still coming in so stay tuned. This report will be updated minute by minute as the on-the-ground information becomes available.
