Life is not all haa haa hee hee

Every magazine or website keeps the target audience in mind, be it women, men, children, etc, and write and publish articles accordingly. We get a lot of sports for men, beauty tips for women and listings of cartoons and animated movies or shows for children. Other than the media who cater to the fashion-holic audience, a certain number of magazines and websites have contents that tend to touch the real side of a certain society which could be any issue from famine to a natural calamity. The main purpose might vary from sympathizing to facing the circumstances, to paying grief on a sad moment.

What most of these websites and magazines seem to ignore, or fear in my opinion, is to touch more realistic issues like disability for instance. They sympathize, they thank God for being blessed and stable, they constantly ramble about big names who donate big amounts of money, etc. For me, that is just another conventional way to get your name out there and make people think that you are a nice person or you have a good nature. I do admit that most of the trusts and foundations rely on these donations and it's the only source that helps them to take care of the disabled. But that is just a positive perspective one might have, I don't.

Coming across this website www.blindkiss.com regarding blind people, made me realize just saying what I said above is not enough. They don't want your sympathy. They just want you to accept them as any other normal person. As most of us would say we do accept them, but deep inside know that we don't and it haunts us how they are different from us and what they lack that we don't, that is what hurts them the most. That is why before we would want to stay at a distance from them, they hesitate and stay away from us.

They do everything that we do. They get together, share experiences and talk about things, like we do. Even if we talk to them trying to make them feel they're not different, at the end of the day, no such effort would bring light to their retinas. But doing such a deed might bring a smile on their faces. They need to be told that if they don't have a voice, there are a lot of people out there who are willing to be their voice. Not because those people want them to be dependent, but rather find a way through to speak for them.

is "information" as much as any statistic. So it's worth mentioning the recent debut of Google's database of Life Magazine images . Throughout it's history Life was famous for publishing iconic images of celebrities (movie stars, world leaders,...
