Finally the Tibetans are being compared to the Palestinians. Maybe now they will get more coverage and the world will see the truth.

Come now, this is simply propaganda. Tibetans are rioting because they have never internalized the true lessons of socialism. Until they come to this realization, they will toil under the illusions promoted by their medieval religion and isolated way of life. The west must understand this, and not make the silly mistake of seeing this as a pro-democracy movement. National liberation was granted to them long ago.

This reminds me of a famous samurai quote, "the warrior doesn't care if he's called a beast or a dog; the main thing is winning.” This is an interesting site. I saw this event on digg http://digg.com/political_opinion/Is_Tibet_the_next_Palestine

Thanks Harriet for yr first hand reports of the situation, I have also been to Dharamsala & and came to know about their plight and also read about their history. Well the people of the world should start a world-wide protests against Communist Chinese rule, Governments should strongly object to the Chinese atrocities in Tibet & ask them to start negotiations with DALAI LAMA for future administration of Tibet. This is the time to take Strong posture and let them know that we are not going to be silent this time & watch helpless people face ethnic cleansing, everybody should decide not to use ANY CHINESE product from now onwards, however cheap it is, so that it will hurt them economically. Lastly the world organisations should put pressure on the Chinese to come to the negotiation table or they'll have to face a situation where teams will be pulled out ot the Olympics.

THE TIME HAS COME TO TEACH THESE CHINESE HAN EXPANSIONISTS THAT WE ARE IN THE 21ST CENTURY WHERE THEY CANNOT JUST WIPE OUT ONE OF THE MOST PEACEFUL CULTURES. AS HIS HIGHNESS DALAI LAMA PUTS IT WE CANNOT LET THEM CARRY ON THIS CULURAL GENOCIDE IN TIBET.

OR if all this doesn't deter them, then BOYCOTT THE OLYMPICS

According to China's Law, a Tibetan who kills less than 3 Chinese is not convicted!

In China, many Chinese people fear Tibetan very much because Tibetans easily lose temper and like fighting. They carry with them a long Tibetan knife anytime. Many Chinese people are killed by Tibetans just because of a quarrel with them. However, those Tibetan killers are not convicted and punished.

The injustice of China's law is due to the goverment's resolve to maintain the unity of the country. The impunity of Tibetan killers is just one of the many measures.

Compared to the White people who killed millions of Indians in North America and drove them to barren places, Chinese is very compassionate because Chinese never launched any genocide of minorities like early Americans did to innocent indians. On the contrary, many Chinese civilians suffer from Tibetan's brutality.

Who the hell are the second class citizens in China?

I am amazed by the international community's ignorance of Dalai Lama's true character, a medieval slave driver. He claims he is a religious leader but he was exactly that, a slave driver before he fled China in the late 1950's. So many Tibetans were living under absolute poverty and slavery before Chinese government took over from Dalai’s rule. Apart from a few elite monks, was there any basic medicine for ordinary Tibetans? Was there any basic education for the ordinary Tibetans? Is it known to people that Dalai Lama was carried around by those Tibetan slaves despite his youth when he ruled Tibet? Is it known to people that he never worked a single day for his crust?

The claim of Chinese cultural genocide in Tibet is a total load of rubbish. It was true that religions of all colours were banned in China during ‘Cultural Revolution’ but that extended to Chinese traditional culture as well. It was driven by fanatic ideologue that beared no resemblance to recent government policies too. I have friends who worked and lived in Tibet for over 50 years. From their personal accounts, Tibetan culture and religion were much better treated and preserved during the ‘Cultural Revolution’ than Chinese’s own traditional culture because governments of all levels took very sensitive views of the Tibetan situation.

While I don’t like many Chinese government policies and laws, I cannot agree with some in the international community to paint the Tibetan issue as a racial and religious issue. I see those views as of evil origin and ill intent if not out of ignorance.

By constantly twisting the truth and facts, Dalai Lama incites racial hatred and religious hatred. Many ignorant Tibetans saw their Chinese compatriots as enemies. Their behaviour towards their fellow Chinese citizens were sometime very violent. This is all because they believed in their religious leader such as Dalai Lama. Dalai Lama should be responsible for the violence in Tibet.

Some Tibetan terrorists killed some people in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, the neighboring province of Tibet. In Dianxin Road, Chengdu, a Tibetan terrorist killed two young people and fled. Anyone who wants pictures, please give me your email account.

Thank you all for these comments on my piece. They are fascinating and highly instructive. The stereotypes of Tibetans that are offered here are important. In Europe, Allan, you would be considered a racist for making such statements. In France, you would be considered a member of the National Front for indulging such stereotypes. Have you heard of Jean-Marie Le Pen? Your comments make the BNP in the UK look almost liberal in comparison. It is for these kinds of reasons that Western liberals get so upset by China's occupation of Tibet. Like I said, China's occupation is racist.

I think calling Tibetans Terrorist is highly irresponsible remarks. Tell me how many Chinese has been killed by Tibetans, maybe few(below 5 specific) by the riots, now tell me how many Tibetans killed by the Chinese, 1.5 million during 1950 to 1960, few thousand during 1989, and from few days protest, over hundred and the death toll is still mounting. I think if the Chinese government really think Tibet is part of their Country, why are they are encouraging prostitution in Lhasa. It is the most sacred place in Tibet, and about 80% of the business are prostitution shop. Therefore, without knowing facts and just because you are patriotic, is not the good reason to support your country. Since, you can write those comments, i would assume that you are an educated person which disappointed me for supporting blindly to the propaganda of your Communist Government.

We don't hate Chinese, lot of Tibetans work under Chinese people including me. But the difference is they are common people who suffer from the communist regime as same as we do. Tibet is never part of china with the history at it's disposal for the evidence until 1959 when the Mao rise to power in china. China and Tibet are different in religion(Chinese don't believe in god), culture, tradition, language(Tibetan language originate from India), political(democratic vs Communist), people(6 million vs 1 billion). I love Chinese people but as a brother from my other mother, not from my mother.

Why do China's writers often fail to understand while knowing that all media, communictions be it books or the internet is all controlled and monitered by the Chinese governoment, hence having access to only Chinese propaganda, still believe everything they say. Could it be Chinese pride, or maybe you work for the government or due to the lack of infomation in China? Either way it always good to question yourself.

A government that is happy to kill its own people for expressing their opinions in the heart of China (Tiananmen Square, Falun Gong) can be believed right? China says 10 people died during the protests and they were due the rioters and looters burning shops, well here are the names and pictures of 9 Tibetans shot dead. http://www.studentsforafreetibet.org/article.php?id=1337 How is that posiable? Has anyone seen pictures of Tibetans with guns recentlyin Tibet? I'm sure the Chinese government will be the first to show the world if it existed.

Please show some kind of evidence of this so called “China's law” for your blog, so that we can have an intelligent debate and avoid you coming across as an ignorant Chinaman, which defeats the point of your blog right?. Thank you.

It has all the characteristics as a conflict can have - monks, an evil government and the good guy, the saint-like Dalai Lama. I think this is amazing that we still choose to cover a selection of issues around the world, not saying these events are terrible. Genocides have been going on around the world such as for instance most African states and no one really thinks that is important. Hypocracy at it's worst....
  • Posted By versaceonly08 | 8 months ago
Awareness about genocide in Tibet is spreading around the world but at a price of loss of many lives on both sides especially the tibetans.when someone commented that nothing is being done about whats happening elsewhere like Africa, i won't necessarily agree on that..More so, lack of propaganda can be a reason. If something done is not known, it doesnot imply nothing is being done at all.ahve been trying peaceful means, We are no terrorist, we are people strugging for justice.if you call someone like that a terrorist, then let it be so..but u r the one who made us terrorist then..Dalai lama is an embodiment of peace.Even at this age, he is working tirelessly. The baseless accusations from the chinese govt. is totally ridiculous. If they have evidence, then as the tibetan PM said, they should tell it to the world.
  • Posted By yoman | 8 months ago
My point was not to smear any piece of the Dalai Lama. My point is that because he is who he is Tibet will become a natural vantage point for attention, while other regions of this world who lacks that vantage point will never ever be heard. I resent the fact that you could imply the fact that I do not consider the acts by the Chinese government as other than outrageous. My basic point is that we should raise our eyes and see beyond the individual conflicts. I understand the intention of taking one conflict at a time but too many conflicts around the world will then just die off in oblivion. I still think we make the comfortable choice when we choose which conflicts matter and which conflicts don't.

answer is simple - to the Chinese government and its colossal army - GET OUT OF TIBET!

the Olympics are a joke whilst this blatant oppression goes on, here and elsewhere

people of China - reject your tyranical government

    DO IT NOW!

Fishmanatsea, if it is true like you say, the Dalai Lama is a dishonest medieval slave driver then he must be a very smart one for fooling countless universities, institutions, the Nobel committee, and world leaders for numerous awards he receives. And you and China must also be so smart for seeing through his lies.
Or could it be you have had a little too much of that old Chinese propaganda. Seriously you should read some of his work and look at what he has done the last 50 years. UNBIESEDLY!!
  • Posted By yakmanok | 8 months ago
I am so blown away by the ignorance of the Chinese bloggers here. It is amazing. The level of their understanding of current and past Tibetan history is below third grade. The information you are being fed by the Government of China is garbage. No one in the world trust it. They are professional liers. Don't confuse making Tibetans a second class citizen in their own country with liberation, don't confuse looting Tibetan natural resources with investment in Tibetan people's future, don't confuse imposition of Chinese language and ways of life on Tibetan people with preservation and promotion of Tibetan culture, don't confuse overwhelming Tibet with floods of Chinese immigrants with beneficial tourism. We Tibetans want China to leave Tibet. Tibet belongs to Tibetans. It is that simple.

Tibet doesn't threaten China's right to exist...any comparison between these two situations shows a distinct LACK of education and knowledge on the part of the contributor.....PLEASE...educate yourself before making such ridiculous and inflammitory comments!!!!!!!!

see those modified pictures on CNN? See those news on washington post that chinese army beat tibetans surprisingly based on some violent pictures shot in Nepal ?? now you see how politics works. Don't scream all around the place, tibetans! dont use human rights and religion freedom to fool the world now. you are just pathetic politicians rather than some human right fighters. what? you are asking all chinese to leave tibet? what if we dont? then we'll be beaten and robbed, right?wow, that was really racial. see how violence occurred besides political reasons? yeah, you just answer that to all the world----it's racism!
and what is true history? no answer to that question now. both sides are politicians. and like you said, politicians are professional liars. so plz DO NOT pretend that you are telling the true story.
  • Posted By ssfounder | 8 months ago
and you are saying that we are treating you like second class citizens? all right. you know what, before this event, it's true that the government are blocking the news whenever you riots *protested*. to make the public never sense the crisis. and nearly all chinese are having so good impression about tibetans. In college, i even donated money to help them raise tuitions. I always believed that tibetans are most dependable and friendly ppl in this country. now i realise that how stupid i was. so please tell me what have ordinary chinese civilian done to you, huh? ok, let's assume that you are referring to those chinese inside tibet, so what do ppl living outside tibet have anything to do with that? do they deserve to be beaten and robbed and even killed?? obviously the answer is racism and politics.

At an ancient philosophical text, the "I TSING", it is written that a supreme power puts some family to rule China and if they fail, that supreme power puts some other family to rule China. That other family has to acquire power and to justify this with their victory. Allthough this refers to China and not to the whole world, it is easy to guess that this is the way that the chinese think about every simillar occasion: if you are the winner, you are right.
The "I TSING" may be ancient, but it still forms chinese state of mind, so we could expect a lot of modern Chinese to think this way.

Yes the people should come to free any area/country from another wicked country in this world becaz we are in 211st century. It is not only Tibet but the Kashmir, Palestine, and Iraq etc should all be free from other forces.

The Tibetans reserve the basic fundamental and democratic right to get their independence. The Chinese Government and the Communist Party in China should repeat the policies of their past rulers who used to subjugate lands from others. It is good for China to keep on its policy of non-aggressioninside the China and externally.By force suppressing the voice of the Tibetans will cause serious harm to the prestige of the Chinese State in the comity of the civilized and democratic nations.Sudhir Afridi
