Ukraine is said to have between 3.5 million and 9 million dead, most of them peasants, in a great famine in 1932 and 1933.The famine was described as a natural disaster during the Soviet era. Ukraine has marked the 75th anniversary of a Soviet-era famine which claimed millions of lives, amid growing desire to review the history of the tragedy. A memorial service for the dead was held in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, on Saturday. Mourners included bereaved families and leaders of former Soviet republics.
