Born on August 25th, 1930 in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, standing six feet and two inches tall, a former milk delivery man as well as a coffin polisher, Thomas Sean Connery, father of Jason Connery, got both fame and fortune by the British agent, James Bond. Sometimes also credited as Sir Sean Connery, he broke from the Bond image that he played in seven films and earned an Oscar award as a veteran Chicago cop, Jimmy Malone in The Untouchables in 1987. Often complemented for his professionalism by his co-stars, Connery continues to be at his best when he plays no-nonsense characters which happen to be his trade mark. He used to live in Spain, in Marbella, near a golf course where he played golf when he was not filming. Disagreements with the local press made him leave the place and now he resides in the Bahamas.
Being a father as well as a grandfather, he was chosen as one of the 100 Sexiest Stars in film history on number 7 by the Empire magazine in 1995. He was voted as the 'Sexiest Man of the Century' by the People magazine in 1999 as well as the 24th Greatest Movie Stars of all time by Entertainment Weekly. Another achievement was being the recipient of 22nd Annual Kennedy Center Honors for lifetime contribution to arts and culture, presented by President Bill Clinton in Washington, D.C. on December 5, 1999. He is also the owner of a film production company by name Fountainbridge Films, which is an area of Edinburgh where he was born. He was awarded a Knighthood on the New Year's Eve in 1999, formally knighted by Queen Elizabeth 11 in a ceremony at Edinburgh's Holyrood Palace, alongside his wife, Micheline and brother, Neil.
He has two small tattoos on his right arm that say 'Scotland forever' and 'mum and dad'. He got them at the age of 16 when he got into the British Navy. He also joined the Merchant Navy as a teenager but due to stomach ulcers, he was forced to leave and received a disability pension for a period of time. He took dancing classes for 11 years from a Swedish dancer by the name of Yat Malmgren. He also took martial arts classes in 1983 where he angered the instructor, Steven Seagal, who in return broke his wrist.
After being married for 11 years to Diane Cilento, he got divorced and went for another marriage after two years with Micheline Roquebrune and they are still together. The American Film Institute awarded him for his lifetime achievements on June 8, 2006 on which he commented, "It means a tremendous amount, especially because of some of the things I have said about Hollywood." He announced his retirement in an interview in New York City during the Tartan Week 2006 celebrations and said he has retired for good.
