A WAVE of environmentally friendly funerals is sweeping the country – as more people choose a burial at sea. In the past, a send-off into the deep was mostly reserved for sailors and naval personnel. But now a Sidmouth shipping firm is compiling a list of people who prefer to do their bit for the environment both in life and death by "sleeping with the fishes". The Britannia Shipping Company has collected deposits from 150 people who have left instructions for a sea burial. John Lister, a director at the company, said: "Burials at sea are a 100 per cent green option."
