The Iraqi cabinet approved a $67 billion budget for 2009, which is $19 billion more than that of 2008. Government spokesman Ali Al-Dabbagh said in a statement that $52 billion will be allocated as an operational budget and $4.10 billion for investment. Dabbagh said that the budget and the draft law will be submitted to the parliament for ratification. It is to be noted that the sharp fall of oil prices urged the Iraqi government to revise its spending plans downwards and to reduce 2009 Budget and to cutting $13 billion dollars from its spending in spite of the urge for further investments in the country.
