Arroyo tries one more time to speak with Obama

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo couldn't get US President-elect Barack Obama on the phone to congratulate him, so she decides to go to Chicago, and will now try to squeeze in a visit to Mr. Obama.

Sources at the Malacanang Palace, the presidential residence in Manila, say Mrs. Arroyo tried three times to speak with the president-elect last week after the November 4 elections, but that Mr. Obama was too busy to take the call. When news came out that Obama spoke with nine state heads after his election, Arroyo's aides tried to downplay the story.

The Philippine president left Manila Monday night for New York to attend the United Nations Interfaith Dialogues. Included in her itinerary is a quick trip to Chicago, Obama's hometown, to meet with the Filipino-American community.
