The fourth day of the fourth test match between India and Australia saw an amazing turnaround thanks to the debutant Jason Krejza. India were cruising at 116 for no loss and no soul believed Australia could retain the Border- Gavaskar trophy this time. Alas Australia had other plans. In dramatic fashion, Australia took 6 wickets conceding just 50 runs and had India tottering at 166 for 6. Captain Dhoni and “all rounder” Bhajji rescued India by a spirited 108-run partnership. In the end India managed to set a competitive target of 382.

Australia is in unfamiliar territory having lost the 2nd test and by some dominating cricket from the host in the 3RD. So now finally they have a chance to redeem their lost glory. Australia will definitely go for the kill and we have an intriguing day of play ahead. Australia have not lost a Test series since the 2005 Ashes in England.

Vinny’s take: Can India save the test match and lift the trophy? Will Australia fight back and retain the coveted Cup? The winner is again the sponsors, all of them involved financially with the game of cricket can laugh their way to the bank. Who would have expected the outcome of the last day of the test match series to decide the fate of the Border-Gavaskar trophy. It all makes me wonder, what good does the outcome bring to the millions of poor people in our country. It might be a naïve question but I keep wondering, would we have been better off if Tendulkar didn’t get out in the 2003 World Cup final and India lifted the Cup? Will the roads get better if we are ICC world rank no:1?
