Every morning the sisters, aged 9 and 11, have to be woken from their sleep with the greatest of care. The girls have the rare medical condition Long QT Syndrome, which causes an abnormality of the heart's electrical system. As a result of their illness, any sudden rush of adrenaline or a sharp rise in blood pressure could prove fatal.Even any type of exercise - especially swimming - could be fatal.
Long QT Syndrome affects one in 7,000, and is usually genetic.Mrs. Church, the mother of the two says that her mother in law had the same illness and had to have a defibrillator fitted. She said that the girls had their check ups since very early age but the results were in conclusive. t was doctors at Swansea's Singleton Hospital who picked up the little-known condition during an ECG scan of the youngest daughter, Evie, in July this year.
Luckily for the girls, they are fairly safe from harm as long as they can prepare for loud noises. Both the girls are coping up with the situations bravely and trying to have a normal life as much as possible. They have to skip their PE lessons but they exercise using Nintendo Wii. The mother of the girls tries to prepare them in advance for any expected loud noise as on Festivals like Christmas etc.
