US Defense Department announced that it will draw down the number of US combat brigades in Iraq from 15 to 14 brigades due to noticeable drop of violence on the ground. Pentagon spokesman Brian Whitman affirmed that the 101st Airborne Division's 2nd Brigade Combat Team deployed in northwestern Baghdad will leave Iraq in November 2008 instead of January 2009. He added that it will not replace the outgoing third brigade of the same Division due to leave as well in November, bringing the total number of brigades in Iraq to 14 brigades
