Podcamp AZ Day 1

Here's the news from the sessions I attended to the best of my Memory. I'm thinking tomorrow I will be posting these as I go.

I started off this wonderful Podcamp morning by heading over to Allvoices own Kathy Jacobs session about Citizen Media, what it is and how to use it. Citizen Media is basically what Allvoices is, a website with news that is also social. You can leave comments, etc.

Now there are advantages to this, you can get down to a more personal level with the audience, you can discuss it at greater length, and you can be more emotional with it. Additionally your audience is tuned into exactly what you do, rather then main stream media where you may get bits and pieces of what your audience wants to see as you go through.

Session two I listened too Jeremy Vaught (sorry if I spelled it wrong) discuss how to make money on your social media feeds. If you have a unique idea, or a new way of doing something on a feed, it may catch on and you may become popular on that website. An example they gave was these Twitter T-Shirts, which started off as an idea on twitter, but after a few people saw it, it grew and become very popular.

In the third session I listened on how to make your Video's better. The biggest aspect in making better videos was AUDIO. If your video is just a "talking head" video, video quality doesn't need to be top of the line. However audio quality needs to be extremly precise in order to create a better listening experience. Downfall of this? The more professional you want to sound, the more you will have to be willing to shell out. $500 was about the santard price for everything he showed us that he had. However cheeper isn't necessairly worse. As long as your audio is decent, without pops or tinny quality, any microphone will suffice.

In the fourth session I heard from Chris Pirillo about community sites. He did a lot of talking about how community sites have evolved over time, for instance a Univeristy site with many users evolved into forums. He discussed how to use these sites to your advantage, and how to keep up with them. Of course being the YouTube star he is, a lot of questions about him were asked anyway.

In the final session I was back to listen about video. Although not a ton of information was given in the presentation, besides the type of videos, anyone watching would have been given a lot of ideas. The types of videos he did give us were vlogs, movie style, and moments, which essentially were what they're name is. Vlogs are generally a "talking head" style of video where you just watch someone talk. a movie style video has a story to it, or at least more dynamics. Moment videos are random on the spot videos. Fairly easy.

Hope you enjoyed my short reviews of Day 1! Hope day 2 is just as fun! I seriously had more fun in the first 10min. of this event then I did the entire time at the Microsoft event I went to earlier this year.

Thanks, Oliver (lockerhaxor)
