It was bad enough when we only hated their music and fashion sense...

The world’s largest social networking website, MySpace said Thursday that according to their survey data collected from an online poll, 60 percent of the millions of eligible voters on MySpace heavily back the Democratic candidate Obama.

The survey conducted by MySpace which has a 3 percent margin of error revealed that only 34 percent of MySpace users were likely to vote for the Republican candidate John McCain. According to MySpace reports, it has approximately 77 million active users out of which around 85 percent are of legal voting age. Now, this is definitely not good news for the 72 year old Republican candidate when the countdown has already begun!

The political director of MySpace Lee Brenner said that “the Next President of the United States has a MySpace profile” through which they send their messages to their “friends.” He further said that “they will continue to engage the citizens of the United States through this profile.”

Yet another unpleasant news for McCain surfaced when the online poll revealed that as many as 64 percent of MySpace female users back Obama as compared to only 31 percent favoring McCain. If that was not enough to sadden the Republican candidate, the results further showed that the younger MySpace users are, the more likely they are to be pro-Obama. According to the survey, the support for Obama was observed rising from 53 percent of those 35 years or older to 62 percent of those between 18 to 24 years of age.

MySpace poll also revealed that for MySpace users, like the rest of the country, economy was the chief concern, followed by “the war on terror” and the environment. Some of the other interesting facts that surfaced were that, the more people are seen engaged online the more they tend to be actually engaged offline. Those people who visit the news sites or go to social networking sites are also the ones who go out and vote, knock on doors and give money to campaigns, and take part in political problem solving process.

MySpace poll result just a few days before the elections has unveiled a completely different perspective to the whole chasing vote campaigns. In this internet age where almost anything and everything happens on the cyber platform, the presidential candidates need to establish a very strong base on this stage as well. Although both Obama and McCain made a lot of efforts to get the support of their voters but it seems that so far Obama has successfully managed to convince the huge internet generation about “the Change they can believe in!”

Marvelous article!! I would hate to put a spell on anything, but I'm hoping for a landslide Tuesday. Anything less could still allow the Republicans to steal this election again. GO OUT AND VOTE! (though I think I'm speaking to the choir here ;-)

I totally agree with you. It is still not too late for the Republicans. They just need to put their final act together. As for "The Day" well you are not the only one hoping for a landslide Tuesday!  ;-)
