The Bakelite Coffin which as produced from the first ever synthetic plastic is now for sale and the auction is expected to generate Thousands of pounds. This Coffin is one of the only five Coffins ever produced and is considered to be the largest in size. It is 6Ft long and is found to be the largest object ever made from the World's first synthetic Plastic.
It is among 24 lots from a private collection that will be sold next week. Other items include telephones, a hairdryer, Art Deco clocks and a 1949 TV set.
In its heyday in the 1930s and 1940s, the "material of a thousand uses" was widely used for everything from guitars to machine guns. But the mottled brown plastic fell out of fashion in the 1960s as home owners opted for brighter colours.
Since the Coffin which is produced out of World's First synthetic Plastic is a rare thing now therefore it has risen curiousity and interest among the buyers and is expected to be sold somewhere between 5000 to 8000 Pounds. the auction is expected to start at Dominic Winter auctioneers, in South Cerney, Cirencester, Gloucs, on Thursday.
